![]() The Mednafen manual recommends turning on "cd.image_memcache", which isn't an option that MedSat exposes, so you would need to go into "mednafen.cfg", which at this point should be inside MedSat's "Core" folder. All my screenshpts have been with the GOAT opengl TV shader. There's a load of video options, but that pretty much comes down to personal taste. The only other thing is controller mapping, but as it explains in the "controls" section, that has to be done during the first runtime of the first game you play via Shift + Alt + This is important as Mednafen will ignore any changes you've made that haven't been saved. Then hit "save profile" and it's almost all set. I'm not really sure how "auto" works for memory/ram, so I choose "512k backup cart" (obv you should choose ram if you're playing a fighter that supports it). Highlight the new line with a single left clickĬhoose Japanese/Western Bioses by clicking on "Path" next to each and navigating to where your bios is Right click in white space under "Game name" it ignores all the multi-emulator stuff:Ĭlick on the bolded "Загрузить" below Medsat 1.8 to downloadĭownload & unzip Mednafen 1.22.2 (linked in OP) in MedSat's "Core" folder" If you're using it purely for saturn, using the "MedSat" frontend would be most striaghtforward. I do have to say that the Mednafen team has been doing a great job with this core. I was using Mednafen back then on Linux, and the Saturn core was something that was added in 2015 - 2016 (something like that?). Also, Mednafen didn't have Sega Saturn support in 2006. they also added features like hardware rendering and higher resolutions. But it did support multiple platforms, unlike SFF, which is Windows only.īut I have noticed that Yabause has been forked many times over the last few years, and some of those forks have improved quite a bit over the original Yabause. Yabause was hot garbage back then, and remained that way for a very long time, as far as compatibility went. But SFF was also a bit esoteric, and requires you to either use real Saturn discs, or mount ISO's through a virtual disc drive. One is SFF, which did have really good compatibility back then, as it was one of the most hardware accurate emulators. Sega's management has been criticized for its decisions during the system's development and discontinuation. What I mean by sketchy, is that back in 2006, there were only really two passable emulators. The failure of Sega's development teams to release a game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, known in development as Sonic X-treme, has been considered a factor in the console's poor performance.Īlthough the Saturn is remembered for several well regarded games, including Nights into Dreams, the Panzer Dragoon series, and the Virtua Fighter series, its reputation is mixed due to its complex hardware design and limited third-party support. Having sold 9.26 million units worldwide, the Saturn is considered a commercial failure. After the debut of the Nintendo 64 in late 1996, the Saturn rapidly lost market share in the U.S., where it was discontinued in 1998. The Saturn was initially successful in Japan, but failed to sell in large numbers in the United States after its surprise May 1995 launch, four months before its scheduled release date. ![]() Sega added another video display processor in early 1994 to better compete with Sony's forthcoming PlayStation. The system was designed around a new CPU from Japanese electronics company Hitachi. Its games are in CD-ROM format, and its game library contains several arcade ports as well as original games.ĭevelopment of the Saturn began in 1992, the same year Sega's groundbreaking 3D Model 1 arcade hardware debuted. The successor to the successful Sega Genesis, the Saturn has a dual-CPU architecture and eight processors. The Sega Saturn is a 32-bit fifth-generation home video game console developed by Sega and released on Novemin Japan, in North America, and Jin Europe.
